Child Protection and Safeguarding

Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and members of the wider school community to share this commitment.

School Policies and Procedures

For full details regarding our child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures please refer to the respective policies on our school policies page

Who To Contact With Concerns

Should you have any concerns relating to the safety and welfare of a child at the school you should immediately contact our designated person(s) for safeguarding:

  • Mrs Hayes (Headteacher)
  • Mrs Bostock (Deptuty Headteacher)

Should you have any concerns in terms of Safeguarding relating to the behaviour of a member of staff, you should immediately contact the designated person as above. If the allegation concerns the Deputy Headteacher,  Headteacher or Child Protection Lead Teacher, you should contact Mrs Aspin (Chair of Governors), via school who will arrange for her to call you as soon as possible.

Should you feel that your concerns have not been dealt with appropriately by the school/chair of governors, you should contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).

The Difference Between Safeguarding and Child Protection

People sometimes wonder what the difference is between the terms safeguarding and child protection.

In practice, Safeguarding is the policies and practices that schools and Governing Bodies employ to keep children safe and promote their well-being. This means everything from security of the buildings, to the safe recruitment of staff and everything in between.

Child Protection is a term used to describe the activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm.

Help and Advice Resources

As parents, you want to make sure that your children develop healthily and thrive. We’re here to help you with advice on how you can build strong relationships with your children and keep them safe. In this regard we will post news articles and resources that we think useful.

We take e-safety very seriously at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Because we use web and cloud based resources we think it is extremely important you understand your responsibility in keeping safe on-line and understand some of the dangers and how to avoid them.

Operation Encompass

On 21st January 2019 Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School implemented a new project that will run jointly between schools and Greater Manchester Police. This project is called Operation Encompass. It aims to support children who are affected by domestic violence by ensuring that their school is informed. This allows the school to support the children. If you have any other questions about this project, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
