Year Two had very special visitors on Monday- Fire fighters!

They came to test Year Two's knowledge of The Great Fire of London and to teach them all about how fire safety has improved since 1666.

The children were lucky enough to touch and try on the protective clothing and learn all about how each item stops the fire fighters from getting burnt or hurt. 

Year Two also got to explore lots of important equipment, including a camera that enables the fire fighters to see through smoke and detect people in danger.

The children learnt that fire fighters today also use axes, just as people did in 1666, but instead of using them to try to chop houses down they use them to chop doors down instead.

The children were extremely inquisitive and asked lots of interesting questions to find out as much as they could about the fire service we are lucky to have today.  

Last but definitely not least, everyone got to take a turn spraying the fire hose, getting Miss Powell wet because she didn't stand far enough away!
