In maths today the children were asked a Big Question about Multiplication and Division. It was why do we need to learn them?
Here is a photo of our thoughts that Miss Kirkup wrote on the board.
Initially the children talked in groups and came up with words associated with multiplication and division and Miss Kirkup wrote them on the board. Then the children thought about how these operations are used and they came to the conclusion that they are a life skill to help with shopping and buying. The children thought that sharing equally was very important and this lead onto a discussion about sharing in families. Eventually the children moved onto discussing the World and how resources are not shared equally because there are very rich and poor people in the world. However the class knew they tried to make a difference because they had made cards for lonely people and helped to raise money and goods for charities.
