Year 1 had a visit from Mrs Jordan, who taught them all about algorithms.

The Year 1 children had to pretend to be robots and follow some algorithms for how to do a dance. Some children even wrote their own algorithms!

It was Monkey's birthday on Monday and to celebrate he had a party and shared food with his friends.
At the party there were 4 animals altogether so Monkey had to split the food into quarters.
Year 1 had to make sure they shared the pizza, chocolate and biscuit into 4 equal parts to get quarters.
This week year 1 children planted sunflower seeds. They whispered to their seed before planting it telling them how much they love them, how they will water them each day and how they promise to look after them to help them grow. The children also explored and made mud pies!!
Year 1 took tape measures out into the forest last week to see if they could guess the age of our trees. They measured the circumference of the tree in inches which gave us an estimation of it's age. Our children found trees that were roughly 40, 48 and 59 years old!!
During their RE lesson the children had to think of things that made them happy. They then drew them on big sheets in their new Pirate Pal groups.
None of the children drew things that cost lots of money or involving sitting at a computer screen! They felt happiness was spending time with their family and friends and feeling loved.
Year one have been learning about halving this week. They have been halving objects, shapes and quantities.
On Monday they helped Monkey share his picnic with Gorilla. They had to halve the food carefully to ensure Monkey and Gorilla got the same amount.
At the end of May we are all going to get together as a school to sing a song which we are also going to sign using Makaton. The children are trying very hard to learn new daily signs to improve the daily interactions with some of our children who use sign as well as the spoken word to...
Today we had a special assembly telling us all about the National Young Writers’ award. We have all been invited to take part in this competition to write a story about every day heroes.
During this talk we played top trumps as two big teams comparing the strengths of different heroes, which included astronauts and guide dogs!
