Year 1 had another exciting computing session with Mrs Jordan this week. She introduced them to a robot called Code-a-pillar.
The children started off with a 'tinkering' session - trying to work out how the robot worked. They then had to programme the robot to make it do given movements.
Year 1 have been focusing on 3D shape this week. They have been naming 3D shapes and sorting them into groups.
They enjoyed watching Jack Hartman's video on 3D shape.
The children then went on a 3D shape hunt!
Year one children worked well together in the forest this week, building cars and dens, making mud pies, climbing trees and working well as a team. One child found success in a completing a creation they had worked hard on over the past few weeks, showing us how perserverance pays off. A butterfly stopped by to admire his creation.
Year 1 have been giving Monkey instructions for how to get from one square to another on a snakes and ladders board.
They had to tell him which direction to travel: LEFT or RIGHT and sent him UP ladders and DOWN snakes to get him there more quickly!
Year 1 have been applying what they know about fractions to finding fractions of a turn.
They have been focusing on: full turns, half turns and quarter turns.
In pairs the children gave each other instructions for doing different turns.
Year 1 had another exciting computing lesson with Mrs Jordan on Monday.
They had to follow and write their own algorithms for creating crazy characters!
Some children even improved their algorithms to make them more precise so their partner would draw exactly what they wanted.
Today we welcomed Beth Tweddle into our school.
Beth explained to our children why exercise is so important - to build strong bones and help us stay fit but most importantly to have fun.
She inspired us with her explanation of how her hobby grew into a passion which led to participating in three olympic games.
