We have had a really good start to our history topic on Romans. The children have enjoyed drawing their story maps of Claudius, the chieftain and the elephants. They were all very polite and praised my efforts when I drew an elephant. Ask them to tell you the story. We have learnt some interesting words and phrases.
In religion the children reflected on the wonder of Creation and how what we do to the planet affects all living things.
They read quotes from Scripture and watched a video of St Francis's Canticle of the Sun. In their books they wrote their own prayer praising God for Creation.
On Friday 7th September we welcomed in the new school year with a celebratory Mass for Our Lady's Birthday which the GIFT Team had helped to organise and set up. We also welcomed parents, governors and people of the parish to celebrate with us.

Today we were thinking about how we can work as a team and what qualities are needed for successful teamwork. Each group worked independently and placed their answers in a diamond, with the top box being the most important quality.
On Monday 11th September we had a visitor from CAFOD called Mr Crosby. He explained what CAFOD was and spoke to all the children about the Power to Be scheme which is helping to provide towns and villages with electricity using solar energy. He showed us the positive effects it had on the people's lives.

Today we welcomed Mr Crosby into class and learnt about how CAFOD are helping other countries by campaigning, asking the world bank to supply funding for renewable energy.

On the 8th September, we celebrated the feast day of Our Lady's birthday. In class we talked about how Mary can help us and why she is special to us. We created a prayer book and celebrated with cake with our parents!
